Wow, its been a couple of weeks since I last posted here, I’ve been busy with one thing or another… mostly others!
I finished relief work, and was offered a position in the company. The boss came and saw me and told me he would get back to me… I’m still waiting – and to be honest, I’m not going to chase them up. If they employ me, the first thing I want to discuss with them is their communication problems!
Last week, we went on an impromptu road trip. We (my Immortal Beloved and son) drove to Christchurch and picked up a trailer – but not just any trailer… a covered in trailer, that we will be using as a camper / live in as well as hauling around our carts / motorcycles. We stayed the night with IB’s step dad and then drove through Arthurs Pass and the Otira Gorge to Hokitika where we stayed with my biggest fan and her partner, who is an engineer. My IB was hoping to get in some whitebaiting… unfortunately that didn’t happen. Instead, he and the engineer spent three days creating a door for the side of the trailer (as it only had a back, drop down door). The door is complete and now installed, and we drove home safely last Thursday.
Friday we had to go into town, and dropped our son off with his Nanna for a week’s holiday with her. Saturday, a day of house work and relaxing, and yesterday, we went whitebaiting… unfortunately, 12 whitebait isn’t really worth the 5 hour effort of sitting on a river bank doing nothing (which I absolutely adore), so we gave our whitebait to a lady who was also whitebaiting nearby. I don’t mind, because I don’t eat whitebait. 🙂
I’m home alone this week, with my son being at his Nanna’s and my IB working out of town – been thinking about how I can make the most of my time alone, and getting work done, and writing as well. I have a plan – one so cunning, you could pin a tail on it and call it a weasel… as Blackadder would say… Anyway, only time will tell if it was a cunning plan, or just a weasel!
Writing-wise – well, I have been making some good progress on Curse of the Taniwha – and managed to find some problem areas. I’m approximately half way through, and I think I can sort it out from here – thank goodness. I can’t wait to get this one finished and off to my critiquers. Which reminds me, I need to contact them today and see how they are placed to read it through.
The Science Fiction story that has been burning up my mind has been forefront of my mind lately – and I am just itching to write it! I have a basic idea of what I want to happen, but I have to be wary because it is quite a tight plot, and when I think things through, I find holes in it, which is a good thing. It means that the holes need to be filled, or that part of the story removed. I got to brainstorm with my biggest fan in Hokitika about the story and came up with a back story for the heroine and hero, and have the basic premise sorted. I want to start writing so badly on it – but I also want to finish Curse of the Taniwha first, so that is the plan – and motivation – getting that finished so I can move straight on the SciFi story.
So what are your plans this week?
