Shards of Ice is a Science Fiction piece about the head of the King’s Bodyguards and a Vigilante, and how they both have secrets that they can’t share.
Resources and Senate Votes are essential for Ch’Ar’s success. There is no such thing as the black market in this part of the universe. Anything sold on the black market is devalued by being ‘ownerless’. To gain the best value for your resources, you need to be the legal registered owner, but on Eldora, the resources are owned by the planet, and can only be signed over by the monarchy – i.e. King Zaykel or the princess. Once you are recognised as the registered owner, you can sell your resources on the open market and get a much better price.
The resources that Ch’ar requires are buried beneath the surface of the planet. He plans on strip mining the planet to obtain as much of the precious metal Zocy as he can. This metal is the strong metal known in that part of the universe and doesn’t bend or melt unless at extremely high temperatures.
Along with the resources is the Senate Vote. Representatives of the Solar System attend the Intergalactic Senate. Each planet has a number of votes, depending on its size. Eldora, being a small planet, only has two votes, and the Monarchy are the representative. The Intergalactic Senate votes on various propositions each year, and they require the support of at least 75% for each to be passed. These involve the general running of the solar system, including the safe trading practices, travel routes and speed restrictions. They also determine who owns resources on the open market. Therefore if Ch’ar obtains the votes, he is better able to present his case to the Senate that he owns the resources.
