It was a long week last week.  A very long week.  And I have to admit that it was a little stressful, but I successfully completed one week of Casual office work for a local employer.  And I managed to do today’s work too!  This week and next week to go.  Then, funnily enough, its the school holidays.

So why was I stressing?  Because

a) the job is using spreadsheets and inputting timesheets…

b) today is the end of the wages period – so ALL timesheets had to be in

c) I still have work with my husband to do

d) I have art work that is due in at the end of this week, so I can work on it over the holidays

e) I’m still trying to edit Curse of the Taniwha!

That might not seem much to you, but my poor ears have been ringing flat out and I’ve had the hit the vitamin B’s real hard!  I have managed to hold it all together, fortunately.

And I managed to get some editing done as well!  I usually print out and read and hand correct or make notes on the print out version, the put these into the computer version, but on Saturday, I decided to just do the edits insitu – i.e. while they are still in Scrivener.  By yesterday afternoon, I had managed to get through 4 chapters, which is no mean feat considering they are quite large chapters at the beginning of the book.  I’m confident that they are well placed, and I shouldn’t have to do a second round of edits until after my critique partners have had a look over it.

There were just some things that needed to be added in, foreshadowing, and making some scenes more dramatic – the beginning has a bit of a nasty event happen, so I needed to make sure that there was enough happening that people could feel the fear, but not stop reading the book.  Its truly a fine line!

So I’m up to her escape and accidentally finding the Taniwha – I’ll keep you posted on how I get on this week.

Also, I’ve started brainstorming on the next novel – the science fiction one.  I haven’t got a title for it yet, hopefully that will crop up soon, as I don’t like calling them “The bloody science fiction novel”, or “the bloody gothic novel”.  I have a setting, two main characters, a real twisty plot (even I have to be careful with THIS one), and lots of backstory.  I can’t wait to start getting into this one and giving you more details.

I did manage to get together some like-minded writers who are prepared to write some awesome articles about their writing processes that I can share with you.  I hope to start getting these posted up soon.

I’ve also signed up for a couple of MOOC’s – although I don’t know if I will get them done or not, but one was about Bullying, and I was really keen on this one.  Will have to have another look and see if there is stuff I can download and use instead.

On the bright side, with all the busyness going on around me, I have been sleeping extremely well – well that was until Saturday and Sunday nights.  But that’s okay, they’re the weekend, and I should be back into my normal sleep pattern tonight  🙂 (well that’s what I’m telling myself and I’m sticking to it!)

What plans have you got for the week?

Have a good one  🙂
