Some weeks, you just feel like you can’t get out of your own way! This winter, I thought I had escaped relatively unscathed from any colds or flu’s. Obviously I was too quick to congratulate myself, as I have my second cold, and this one is nastier. I have asthma with it, and two nights with only 4 hours sleep. On top of that, I have a little boy with a nasty cough, who happens to have had the two days off, when I had crap sleeps. Invariably by late afternoon I am a yelling screaming mess, wondering what the hell has happened to my life to make me so miserable. Fortunately I do realise it is only the illness speaking, but I hate being sick and not being able to sleep. Sleep is what makes me better and keeps me sane.
So anyway, that is my rant, I guess I should really talk about my editing, but then I can genuinely say that the weather, and illness, have affected my writing abilities. Last night, the laptop and I were physically wrapped around the fire trying to extract heat out of it while trying to edit. It wasn’t ideal, and it didn’t work, but I have to admit actually being able to have a laptop and curl myself up around the fire was nice. Once upon a time I was having to rush backwards and forwards between the fire and the computer, just to keep warm.
EDITING – right, yes, I have done some, but not as much as I would like, and I have a strange feeling that my story is quite clinical. What I mean by that is that it is missing something, I don’t know whether I have concentrated too much on dialogue to the detriment of the descriptives or whether the story just lacks oomph. I really don’t know. I like the story, but it seems a little sterile. Will be interesting to see what the readers think. I have a couple lined up for the first read through, will be interesting to see what they have to say.
I am not yet half way through, but hope to get there by the end of the weekend, which will put me in a good position for next week.
