This morning while I was walking home from dropping off my son at school, I saw this awesome cloud formation – it was intense and very ominous and I thought – Ohhh, I can feel another writing challenge coming on!  So get your writing caps on – this is the picture – it was taken in Godzone (NZ) and if all you can see are clouds then WHAT ARE YOU DOING BEING A WRITER!

I won’t tell you what I see, because I don’t want to prejudice all of you clever writers.

Write as many words as you like and post the story on your own blog or website – the catch is, you have to write it in a genre you don’t normally write in, so if you write fantasy, do it as a chick lit – if you write chick lit, write it as a vampire story – get it, go with the complete opposite of what you normally do!

So what are you waiting for?  Start writing!

Bugger, I have tripped myself up really, because I had an idea for a story, but since I have set the limits of being the opposite genre to what you normally write – I can’t do SciFi – bugger, bugger, BUGGER! going for a twist on chick lit instead!

I’m in! And because I hate it so much, I’ll be writing vampire fiction *ack*.

While I love reading Chick Lit – I certainly can’t write it! But these challenges are all about extending yourself and your ideas. Hopefully Merilee, you might find you enjoy writing vapire stories… :>

I’d love to do this but am struggling to think of a genre I don’t normally write that wouldn’t kill me to write. 😛

What do you normally write? Ok, yeah I know fantasy – what about just mainstream? Murder? Mystery?

Gosh, I love that photo. I haven’t done a contest yet (though I keep planning to) so I’m going to jump in. I like to write Sci Fi so I guess uhhhhh…well I don’t think I can write Chick Lit worth a damn so I might have to do fantasy or romance or something. Sad part is that brings to mind about 10 Sci Fi ideas. Arrrr!

I know, Sci Fi is just too close to what I write, so Chick Lit is what I am going with –

But oh the ideas I have had! Man, I might just keep popping out the stories until they wear thin!

Romance! I don’t normally write romance, I might have to go with that one.

Ha, funny, I just made a vague reference to a cloud formation in the novel I’m working on. It must be fate that I then ran across your blog while blogroll surfing from writer to writer.

Nice to meet you Karen. At some point I want to see “wannabe” removed from your blog description. 😀

I’m gonna add you to my links page so I can come back and check on that. Keep fighting the good fight and don’t give up on your dreams!!!

I love clouds, could sit and study them for hours – I take lots of photos of them!

Yes, one day Wannabe will be gone, but you know what, I am living my dream, and I could not be happier. If I never get anything published, I still wouldn’t be worried, because I have written for the satisfaction of my own sanity!

I do have a short story soon to be published in the Masters of Horror Anthology – Along with Cassie Hart whom I think you know – due out end of April, details to be advised… Watch this space!

Hm, very interesting. And while I have a whole fantasy scene in mind already I will try to change the genre to something I don’t write in fit the challenge.

Yip, I can think of lots of ways too, but I must say I am enjoying doing the chick lit thing – hopefully it will turn out humourous too!

I have to confess that I started a short story from this then realized it was within ‘spec-fic’ so I’m still writing it, but will try and think of something else as well!
