Funny how it takes packing up a house before you realise that you've become obsessed with something. I mean, I knew about the notebooks, but clearing out my writing desk, I discovered lots of sticky note pads. So apparently I'm a sticky-notepadaholic too!
And I don't mean just the neon coloured ones. I have cat ones, and mushroom ones, and arrows, and coca cola ones, and multicoloured ones. It's actually almost embarrasing. It would be embarassing if everyone knew how many I had. But the numbers will be kept under wraps.
But the thing is, unlike notebooks, I use the sticky notes. I write notes on them and stick them on my window beside me, or when I'm editing, I will read through the first draft really quickly, making notes and sticking them in a notebook (funny that) to jot down ideas or thoughts that might not have been completed, or facts to check for later.
I remember at a Romance Writers conference in Wellington, I met the wonderful Rachel Herron, and she showed us how to edit that way. And I personally thanked her afterwards for validating my reasons for buying notebooks and sticky notes.
I know I make fun of the fact that I have so many of these items (and don't get me started on pens), but they are all tools that authors rely on. You can never have too many notebooks, sticky notes or pens, apparently.
