Somedays we wonder why we got out of bed. With perimenopause really kicking my butt lately, I often get up in the morning and wonder why I'm trying to put my container of rolled oats in the fridge, or the milk in the pantry.
There are days where work can get you down and you struggle to find space. We've had some busy days lately, and I've had three jobs on the go with people constantly asking me to print something out for them, or call an orderly, or let the cleaner know the room is empty so can be cleaned. One day, but head was literally spinning, and I thought I was going to fall off my chair.
Which meant one thing. Stress.
Stress manifests in my body in different ways. Often it is vertigo - where you feel like you're off balance. Another way is my shoulders get tight, and my neck sore. These are reminders for me to stop and take a deep breath, or two, or three as the case may be.
And that is where you need to find the positives in a stressful day.
Jutst before Christmas, my son had a mental break. It was hard for me to deal with, but fortunately my Mum was here at the time, so together, we were able to support him back onto his feet. One thing my Mum taught him, was to find three positives in his day. So now, everyday, I ask him after he's finished work, what his three positives are. Sometimes its as simple as he helped out some other people, which made them happier. Sometimes it's a little bit bigger, like catching up with a friend of his Nanna's and have a conversation with them.
What it has taught him, and me, is that every day, something positive happens, regardless of what your day is like. You need to look for those positives in your day.
That day of chaos at work, what were my three positives? The shift changed and things settled down, I was able to make a nurse laugh, the smile that I give away to others, and they smile back.
So, no matter what happens, if your day is stressful, take a few deep breaths, and try to find the positives in your day.
